Research abstract
Criteria and Methodologies for a Sustainable Management of river Sediment.
Background And Research Gaps
Rivers are critical ecosystems that provide a wide range of ecological, social, and economic benefits to human society. However, they are dynamic systems that are constantly changing due to both natural and human-induced factors (Dudgeon et al., 2006). Among these factors, sediment dynamics are particularly important because they influence various ecological and societal functions, such as water quality, habitat availability, navigation, and flood control(Vorosmarty et al., 2010). Furthermore a sediment management is found to be site specific ,and there is no single comprehensive guiding manual for river sediment management across Europe. Hence ,Effective sediment management strategies are needed to maintain sediment balance and support river ecosystems(Brierley & Fryirs, 2008). Following a multi-disciplinary approach, the primary objective of this study is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the river bed profile condition and provide recommendations for effective and sustainable sediment management practices.
Research Goals
Strategic methods and Monitoring tool for sustainable management of Sediment for the main rivers in Toscana region.
Methods
The method that is to be used in this work is Numerical Morpho-dynamic model and scenario analysis.
Results
Strategic methods and Monitoring tool for sustainable management of Sediment for the main rivers in Toscana region.
-To understand and address the driving problems
- To characterize the sediment and quantify the sediment in at a river and rich scale
-To do scenario envestigation and identify the equilibrium bed profile
- To propose a Monitoring procedures
